Diggle to celebrate 50 years
Date published: 01 October 2009
DIGGLE FC will celebrate 50 years of existence with a reunion evening to be held at Diggle Band Club on Friday, October 16 (7.30pm).
Members of the Huddersfield and District Football League since 1993 they won the Barlow Cup in 2000 — Diggle were previously members of the Saddleworth League and the Oldham Amateur League.
The 50-year celebrations coincide with the club’s achievement of gaining the prestigious FA Charter Standard Award.
One Diggle player hoping to reach a milestone of his own soon is Richard Devy.
The 37-year-old midfielder has waited patiently for the chance to claim his 150th goal at senior level for Diggle.
Devy has been stuck on the 149-goal mark for two years following a lay-off through tendonitis in his knee.
His comeback has started in Diggle’s second team and he is hoping to be in a position to stake a claim for a first team place before too long.
Further information on Diggle’s reunion celebrations can be obtained from George Bradbury on (01457) 820669 or by visiting the club’s website at www.digglefc.co.uk
