Hollinwood victory hopes are dashed

HOLLINWOOD travelled to Kippax ‘A’ with high hopes of collecting their first points of the season in division four of the Pennine League, but found themselves 32-4 behind when the match was abandoned due to an injury to a home player.
Playing against a fierce wind, Hollinwood were 10-0 down but still in with a shout with half-time approaching. However, some sloppy tackling allowed the home side to run in three quick tries to take a 26-0 interval lead.
Alistair Williams touched down for Hollinwood to raise hopes but, as Kippax began to knock the visitors about there seemed little appetite for the job.
Hollinwood lost Mark Johnson with a facial injury after a blatant head butt merely resulted in the offender and victim being sin-binned, to everyone’s surprise.
Kippax added another try before one of their players suffered a nasty knee injury and, after a long delay, the referee decided to call off a match in which Neil Messinger, on debut, was one of few Hollinwood players to show up well.
