ROSE of Lancaster produced a shock in round one of the D&J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League’s President’s Cup.
With only win from four attempts in David Giblin division one, they turned the form book upside with a 4-0 defeat of top-flight Lowerhouse United ‘A’.
Last season’s beaten finalists, Coppice United, made it through, but they were given a real fright by Oldham United.
Second from bottom in division two, Oldham pushed their more illustrious opponents all the way before finally succumbing 4-3.
Failsworth Athletic, at the foot of the premier division, had a scare against Crompton and Royton, from division two.
All-square at the end of extra-time Athletic booked their ticket for round two on penalties.
Fitton Hill Rangers came unstuck against Bridge Inn.
The two teams sit at opposite ends of division one — Rangers lead the table by two points — but it was Bridge who went through 5-4 in the spot-kick shoot-out.
High Crompton CC came out on in the all Jack Abbott premier division clash against Failsworth Dynamos.
Chaddy End FC ended Rifle Range Royal Blues’ hopes of causing an upset with a 4-0 win over the division two pacesetters and FC Royton, who sit third in the premier division, defeated Highfield United 2-1.
