Gutsy Rangers surge clear

A THRILLING 14-10 win away at second-placed Folly Lane extended the lead at the top of the North-West Counties division two table for Saddleworth Rangers under-14s.
Despite falling behind to an unconverted try, Rangers responded strongly and were rewarded when Harry Wallace forced his way over for a try goaled by Dominic D’Adamo.
Further tries from Joseph Harrison-Brown and Joe Boulter, both off the back of clever grubber kicks from Adam Wardle, gave Saddleworth a 14-4 lead.
Folly Lane hit back well and reduced the gap to four with 10 minutes left, but superb defence from Rangers, for whom Cameron Robertson was man-of-the-match, maintained their 100-per-cent start.
The best performance of the season so far couldn’t prevent Rangers under-12s from losing 12-8 at home to Leigh Miners Rangers.
A brilliant try from Jacob Ford, running home from 75 metres out, opened the scoring for Rangers, before Leigh equalised.
Ford had another superb effort controversially ruled out before Miners struck again to lead 8-4 at the break.
Leigh went further ahead but Rangers hit back with an excellent try from Sam Ireland. It wasn’t enough to claim the points, but both sides impressed in an exciting clash.
Rangers under-nines drew four tries each with a well-organised Leigh Miners Rangers team.
Scorers were Bradley Jinks (three) and Ben Forster.
