Hill helps Aero to first victory

BAE B were boosted by the return of the prodigal Kevin Hill and he helped them to their first win of the season – 8-2 over Honeywell B in the Oldham Table Tennis League first division.
Surprisingly, Kevin was the only player from BAE to lose, with his brother Mick and Eddie Kalinowski both winning three.
There were two good wins for Werneth B’s Dougie Hill against league leaders Glodwick. This couldn’t prevent Glodwick from winning 7-3 thanks to three from Jeff Craighill and two each from Andy Jackson and Zil Rahman.
Hollinwood’s A team triumphed 6-4 against Honeywell A, Tristran Swann being the star with three wins, while there was a good win for Hyde YMCA A, 8-2 away at Grotton. Ken Ward was undefeated and Geoff Ogden and Lionel Royle won two each.
There was a hard-fought draw at Rosehill against Hollinwood B. Two wins each for Dave Pegg and Phil Ashworth were matched by two each for Adam Rowbotham and Joe Redikin.
In the second division, Hollinwood C beat their F team 9-1 with maximums from Steve Collins and Nathan Buckley. The F team point was supplied by Andrew Tarpey’s win over Matty Evans.
Hollinwood E restricted title-chasing Coldhurst C to a 7-3 win. There was a maximum for Coldhurst’s Paul Howarth.
Droylsden won 7-3 at home to Pennine with a good maximum from Mike Truter and two each from Miles Benjamin and Phil Denby. Steve Mather replied with a double for Pennine.
Honeywell D went down 9-1 to their C team thanks to trebles from Barrie Royle and Brian Higgins.
Gilders won 9-1 at Coldhurst D in the third division thanks to maximums from Gerry Lees and Colin Ogden on his return from injury. Paul Cahill supplied Coldhurst’s point.
Oldham Deaf A won 7-3 at home to Unison D with a treble from Dave Varney, while Honeywell E beat Unison B 6-4, despite a maximum from Unison’s Paul Whyatt. Pete Ganley and Alan Wynn won two each for the home side.
Owls A and Saddleworth fought out a draw. There was a good treble for Alex Griffiths and two from Tony Prescott for the visitors. Richard Tamworth replied with two for Owls, who secured the draw by winning a hotly-contested doubles.
Brian Huskinson won three for St Saviours in their 6-4 win over Coldhurst C, while Coldhurst B won 8-2 at home to Grotton B thanks mainly to trebles for Gary Keylock and Malcolm Wills.
Top of the table Unison C slipped up by playing an ineligible player against Uppermill B, trebles from Frank Sheldon and James Bollard resulting in a 6-4 win instead of 9–1.
The youngsters of Our Lady’s B won 8-2 at Werneth G in the fourth division. There were trebles for both John Moran and Matthew Kelly.
The Allmans (Callum, Dean and Paige) of Our Lady’s C team also received praise for the tremendous spirit even though they went down 10-0 to a strong Werneth F team.
Top-of-the-table Werneth E won 9-1 at Deaf Club C even though Joe Taylor lost his 100-pr-cent record to Alan Cockcroft. There were maximums from Dave Holme and Phil Coombe for Werneth.
Honeywell F moved into second place with a 10-0 win over St Saviours B.
