OLDHAM St Anne’s will attempt to hold off the challenge of Waterhead tomorrow (2pm kick-off) in the first local derby of the season at Higginshaw Road.
Mick Cashin’s Saints are currently top of National Conference League division two, having won seven of their eight matches so far.
The latest victory came via a very impressive 56-12 thumping of Egremont on their own territory up in Cumbria.
And with Waterhead certain to be putting everything into trying to get one over on their rivals, Cashin wants to see the same attitude displayed by his men for the second week running.
“We were outstanding last week and we will need to be so again,” he said.
Waterhead coach Mick Slicker has presided over a season that has so far been disappointing, given the feel-good factor that existed at the club following the Standard Cup final victory at Easter.
The Peach Road side have won three of their eight games in division two and stand fourth-bottom, losing 30–16 at home to Eccles and Salford Juniors last week despite a strong second-half fightback.
In division one, leaders Saddleworth Rangers are without a game this weekend. The Greenfield club could lose top spot to Castleford Panthers, should they defeat Bradford Dudley Hill away from home.
