Inter-league win for Veterans

OLDHAM Vets A team scored a tremendous victory in the Premier division of the Lancs and Cheshire League when they beat Mid-Cheshire 7–3.

Pete Morris rolled back the years to post three wins. He was ably supported by Phil Myers and Dave Buckley with two each.

In the Oldham Table Tennis League first division, there were two good wins for BAE A team, Tony Bates scoring a maximum as they beat Werneth A 7-3 and doing likewise in the 9–1 win over Hollinwood A. Tony Smith also trebled.

Werneth C went down 8-2 to their B team, for whom Dougie Hill scored a treble, while Honeywell B lost 8-2 at home to Saddleworth, who had Ian Mclean and Duncan Hadfield to thank for three wins each.

Runaway leaders Glodwick beat Rosehill 9-1 with Mark Ramsbottom, Jeff Craighill and Kamal Hussain all winning three.

Top of division two, Honeywell C fought out a tough draw at home to Unison A, Brian Higgins and Peter Buckley winning two each for Honeywell and Andy Hey and Allan Auxilly replying likewise for Unison.

Pennine beat Honeywell D 7-3, thanks to Glenn Chadwick, John Robertson and Steve Mather all winning two.

Coldhurst A kept up the pressure at the top of the table with a 9-1 defeat of Droylsden with maximums for Paul Howarth and Simon Walsh, while Andy Evans won three in Hollinwood D’s 8-2 defeat of Hyde YMCA B.

Uppermill B went down 7–3 at home to Deaf A in the third division. Ian Cockcroft, Dave Varney and Prakash Bhojani all won two for the Deaf Club.

Coldhurst B beat their C team 8-2 with a treble for Darren Brown, while Coldhurst D had a tremendous 10-0 win away at Unison D. David England, Phil Mellor and Peter Altham formed the victorious side.

In the fourth division, Glodwick Academy won 6-4 against Owls B team thanks to trebles from Zac Rajput and Abdul Gufar.

Owls B then beat Werneth G 6-4 thanks mainly to two wins each for Dinesh Gorasia and John Tanner.

St Saviour’s B went down 9-1 to Our Lady’s, trebles recorded by John Moran and James Chappell.
