Superb Rangers back with a bang

SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-15s displayed no rustiness in seeing off Wigan St Jude’s 52-0, despite four weeks of inactivity.

The second round Lancashire Cup tie did contain handling errors from Saddleworth in the first half and an 18-0 interval advantage flattered the visitors.

Danny Richardson and a Lewis Galbraith double, allied to three Ben White conversions, left Rangers sitting pretty as the teams changed ends.

Saddleworth then emerged to take full control, Galbraith completing his hat-trick before further tries arrived from Ryan Maneely (two), Scott Booth, Josh Bradbury and Ben White, with the latter only missing one of his nine conversion attempts.

Richardson was Saddleworth’s man-of-the-match and Ross Hansford got the coaches’ award for a tireless display.

ON a bitterly cold morning, Oldham St Anne’s under-eights overcame local rivals Saddleworth Rangers by six tries to one.

However, the final scoreline didn’t reflect a tight game in which slight mistakes made all the difference.

An inexperienced Saddleworth side scored their only try through Robbie Coates.

St Anne’s under-10s put on a brave show before losing 16-4 against Shevington Sharks.

Michael Grabowski put Saints ahead, with boy-of-the-match James Rowley providing the hard yards.

Adam Goodwin took the top tackler award and Harrison Lewis was the most improved player.

If any Year Five pupils wish to join the squad, training takes place at Counthill on Fridays from 6.15pm.

Rylands under-11s were just too well-drilled for a determined St Anne’s to deal with, running out 28-0 winners.

Saints war horse Thomas Armstrong matched the Rylands aggression and James Barran distributed well to earn himself the boy-of-the-match award.

The top tackler award for St Anne’s went to Cameron Molloy, while Anthony Wooley made good yards.
