Final blow for title holders

HOLDERS Bernard Andrew and Glyn Dixon fell at the final hurdle in their bid to retain the Oldham and District Golf League’s pairs matchplay trophy.
The Saddleworth pair were hit by an early birdie barrage from Stamford’s Stuart Fletcher and Andy Earlham, who then held on to their lead for a 4&3 success.
STEVE Lennon won division one of STAMFORD’S November medal with 47-7.33-39.67 for the 12-hole event.
David Aikenhead (47-11.33-35.67) won the second division prize, while third-division honours went to Arthur Gartshore (53-14.67-38.33).
PAUL Donlan and Dave Kendrick teamed up to win a greensome Stableford event at Oldham. Having scored 43 points, they shaded a card play-off against Terry Kelly and Alex Simmons. Steve Rae and John Bramhall were third with 41 points.
Anthony Jones and Brian Ogden also needed a card play-off to edge out Chris Bramhall and John Coleman in a four-ball better-ball medal after both pairs carded a score of 59. John Glover and Steve Rae (60) were third.
JOHN Stockley was the winner of a medal at WERNETH.
His score of 74-10-64 enabled him to finish a shot clear of runner-up Alan Cowling, who carded 89-24-65.
RYAN Nevin finished 8up to win a junior winter bogey competition at Blackley in which players used their full handicaps against the course.
Scott Salway (6up) was second, followed by Michael Armstrong (2up) and Adam Bowler (2up).
Week two of the men’s winter league bogey competition saw Mike Moxon (8up) come out on top from Mark Gill (8up), Bob Hampson and Alex Hampson.
Overall, Andy Bardsley leads with 14 points. Garry Baldwin and Mike Moxon are next on 10.
