HOLLINWOOD moved up to third place in the premier division of the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League following a hard-fought victory over Hindsford at a rain-lashed Chapel Road.
But the home side had to thank goalkeeper Roy Potts for this latest success.
The Hollinwood shot-stopper made a string of crucial saves and also had a hand in the second goal.
Manager Paul Bennett welcomed back Alan Beckett to first team action following a lengthy lay-off through injury.
And former Athletic man Phil Salt continued in midfield after signing for Hollinwood at the start of the season.
It was Salt who got the hosts off to a flyer, converting a spot-kick in the 11th minute following a foul on Anthony Robinson.
Bennett has been impressed with Salt’s form so far, saying that his professional background clearly shows at Manchester League level.
Salt made only a handful of appearances for Athletic before moving into non-league circles and, according to Bennett, is happy at Hollinwood.
Victory over lowly Hindsford took Bennett’s side to within touching distance of leaders Walshaw Sports, but Hollinwood were forced to work hard for their three points.
Bennett said: “Hindsford were a very well organised side and I’m surprised where they are in the league.
“Our ’keeper kept us in the game with some great stops after we had taken an early lead.”
Of the returning Beckett, Bennett added: “He looked a bit rusty but this was his first game back in the first team after injury, although he’s had a couple of run-outs with the reserves.
“I’m pretty sure that he will be back to his best in a few weeks’ time.”
Hollinwood are going to rely on Beckett’s firepower in the months ahead if they are to sustain their title challenge.
Hollinwood’s second goal came courtesy of a Potts assist.
His Hindsford counterpart was unable to deal with the ’keeper’s long clearance and Robinson nipped in to head the ball into the net.
