TABLE TENNIS: BAE B had a tremendous win in week 10 of the Oldham Table Tennis League season, beating Grotton A 7-3.

Star of the show was Eddie Kalinowski who scored a brilliant treble, and he was well supported by Mick Hill with two wins.

Dave Buckley invoked standard AP (Average Protection) and was missing from the Honeywell Lane A line-up in their 10-0 loss to Division 1 leaders Glodwick, although Phil Myers was particularly unlucky in going down in five to Mick Moir.

Werneth B beat Honeywell B 6-4 with two wins for Rob Carter and Doug Hill. Tom Ryan and Lee Davenport won two each for Honeywell but lost the crucial doubles.

Hollinwood A lost 7-3 at home to Werneth A with Darryl Meredith winning his customary three for the visitors, although he did have a scare against Hollinwood’s Adam Rowbotham before triumphing 13-11 in the fifth.

Rosehill won 7-3 at home at home to Werneth C with Phil Ashworth scoring a maximum, as did Ian McLean for Saddleworth in their 7-3 against Hyde YMCA A.

John Foster scored Hollinwood F team’s only point in their 9-1 Division 2 defeat to Droylsden for whom Miles Benjamin and Mike Truter were undefeated.

The Hollinwood E team also lost 9-1 to their C team, with Nathan Buckley and Andy Evans undefeated.

Unison A had a bad week as they went down 6-4 to both Pennine and, in a re-arranged fixture, to Uppermill A. Against Pennine, Mike Brierley won three for Unison but Pennine’s strength in depth proved too much

Brierley won two for Unison in the match with Uppermill, as did Andy Hey, but they were trumped by two wins each for Mark Simpson and Pete Watson.

Honeywell Lane D went down 8-2 to league leaders Coldhurst A for whom Paul Howarth and Simon King were unbeaten.

Unison D, bottom of Division 3, had a good 6-4 away win at Honeywell E, thanks to three wins for Ian Connell and two from Barry Fordham, who also combined to win the all-important doubles.

Saddleworth B went down to a pair of 7-3 defeats, firstly against St Saviour’s A, for whom Brian Huskinson won three and the fast- improving Alex Leach two. They then lost to promotion-chasing Coldhurst B by the same score.

The Deaf Club A team surged clear at the top of the table with a 10-0 rout of Coldhurst E thanks to Pete Dawson, Ian Cockcroft and Dave Varney.

In the top of the table clash in Division 4, Deaf B beat Werneth E 6-4 to leapfrog them into first place. Matt Gartside was unbeaten for the Deaf Club and Mike Briggs won two.

Coldhurst E beat Werneth F 6-4 with a maximum for Paul Cahill and two for Andy Pogson.

Counthill continue to improve, although they went down 9-1 at home to Our Lady’s B team. Adam Newton was particularly unfortunate in losing in five to Matt Kelly after winning the first two sets. The Our Lady’s trio of John Moran, Matt Kelly and James Chappell won all the singles matches.

Goldwick Academy won 7-3 against Our Lady’s C with trebles for Zac Rajput and Abdul Gufar. The Our Lady’s team of Callum Allman, John Kenny and Paige Allman all won one each.

Meanwhile Our Lady’s A had a good 6-4 win away at Werneth G, thanks mainly to a Pete Chappell treble.

Deaf C went down 10-0 to the Honeywell F team of Leo Cogger, Ron Holt and John Rutland. Deaf’s Alan Cockcroft was unfortunate to lose all his games in five.
