Local lads miss out on prize
LOCAL snooker talent was represented in the England Amateur Snooker Board regional junior tour event staged at Oldham Snooker Academy.
Pictured with Academy owner and coach Nisar Mohammed are 11-year-old Aaron Davies (left, Royton) and (right) 16-year-old Ryan Duffy (Moorside) who were among the 24 talented youngsters taking part.
The competitors came from as far afield as Hereford and Carlisle and the local lads found themselves in tough groups as they failed to reach the quarter-finals.
The winner was 17-year-old Farakh Ajaib, from Accrington, who beat Birmingham’s Jordan Rimmer in the final.
OLDHAM Snooker Academy A team boosted their title challenge in the Manchester Snooker League with a 6-1 win over second-placed Moor Club A.
There were victories for Ian Atherton, Michael Wild (breaks of 55 and 57), Mick Dickenson and Sajid Zamurd.
Dickenson won with a fine clearance from brown to black, while Sajid won on a black-ball decider.
The B team had no fixture due to Moor Club B withrawing from league.
This week the A team travel to well-fancied Belle Vue A while the B team are at home to Chorlton.
