GOLF: FOUR clubs have joined the Oldham and District Golf League for next season.
Blackley, North Manchester, Crompton and Royton and Fairfield will compete in a self-contained seven-team division in 2010 with three of the clubs fielding both ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams and Fairfield just an ‘A’ team.
The acceptance of the four clubs is expected to lead to a new format for the 2011 season.
If one more ‘B’ team — 10 to 18 handicap players — can be found then the current eight-strong ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions will be expanded to four divisions of six with the top two in each division playing a semi-final and final to decide the ‘A’ and ‘B’ champions.
Clubs currently competing in the league are Ashton, Brookdale, Denton, Dukinfield, Oldham, Saddleworth, Stamford and Werneth.
