OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club (Seals) had one of its most successful years in 2009, winning a host of trophies and medals.

They won the Central Lancashire Division 1 Intermediate League, remaining undefeated throughout the campaign. Similarly, they were unbeaten in winning the Central Lancashire Junior League, in which they took the 10, 12, 14 and 16-years age group trophies.

In the Central Lancashire Junior Jubilee League, Oldham qualified for the Top Final and secured a runners-up spot.

Earlier in the year, Oldham swimmers took part in the Central Lancashire Preliminary Age Group Gala at Salford’s Broughton Pool and came away with 96 individual medals, together with both the 10 and 13-years age group shields.

They followed up at the Central Lancashire Age Group Championships at the Manchester Aquatics Centre by winning a host of medals and the Top Club Award.

The Warburtons Age Group Gala at Castle Leisure Centre, Bury, saw Oldham win 68 medals, the 11, 14 and 16-years age groups and both the overall girls and boys age group trophies.

At the same gala, Oldham climaxed their season by winning the Bob Foden Memorial Trophy for the first time in 20 years. The continuous relay, comprising seven girls and seven boys from 9-years upwards, showed great strength through the team.

Five members of club also qualified and swam in the National Youth and Age Group Finals held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
