Heyside quick off the blocks

AMATEUR FOOTBALL: A RAPID start set Heyside on their way to a 9-1 win over Atherton Town reserves in the Manchester FA Amateur Cup.
Two goals to the good inside 15 minutes, the Huddersfield and District League division four outfit had stretched their lead to 5-0 at the break.
Heyside dominated the second half, before Atherton scored a consolation goal in the last minute.
Joe Mannion struck four times, Michael McCabe hit a hat-trick, while James Taylor and Nick Campbell got the others.
Uppermill are through to round two of the Huddersfield and District League’s Barlow Cup.
Paul Waterhouse’s side, who have turned the corner of late in terms of results, defeated division two outfit Scholes 4-2.
Diggle’s first-round tie at home to Shepley was postponed.
In the Richardson Cup, Heyside reserves succumbed to a 6-1 defeat against their Scholes counterparts.
Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Heyside equalised just after the restart through Ryan Pugh.
But Scholes, with the advantage of the slope, took control to move into the next round.
Diggle’s second string were held to a 4-4 draw by Cumberworth in reserve division one, but Uppermill were beaten 2-0 at Shepley.

North Manchester Girls League
LAURA Barlow’s double was in vain as Uppermill under-12s were beaten 5-2 by leaders Harpurhey United in the North Manchester Girls League.
But the under-12s, thanks to goals from Ellie Saxon and Caitlin Hall, defeated Middleton 2-1.
East Manchester Junior League
AVRO Juniors under-14s recorded an emphatic 11-0 win over Waterloo in the East Manchester Junior League Cup.
Tameside Sunday League
AVRO Juniors under-13s were beaten 3-2 by Eastlands in the Tameside Sunday League.
