GOLF: WERNETH Cricket Club stalwart Jack Roscoe has been recognised for his many years’ service to his club and the Central Lancashire Cricket League.
Jack, a Werneth member for over 50 years, received the CLL’s President’s Trophy from John Cleary, who paid tribute to him for his lifetime contribution and his tireless work behind the scenes, particularly in ensuring excellent changing room facilities and refreshments for players on match days.
Jack played cricket for Werneth from 1957 until 1977, helping his team to victory in the 1959 Wood Cup in which he shone as an opening bowler.
He later became president of the club, chairman of cricket, entertainments’ chairman and sponsorship manager. But his longest stint was as treasurer, a position he held at The Coppice for 31 years.
Jack, a life member of Werneth CC, received a standing ovation from those who attended the CLL annual dinner at Milnrow Cricket Club.
