PETE MOLLOY took first place in the latest of the Monarch Lodge winter league matches with carp and roach falling to his swimfeeder and maggot tactics weighing in 7lb 10oz.
Malc Kershaw was second, with the pole and maggot accounting for plenty of ide and chub taking the scales down to 6lb 4oz.
Winner of the previous match Dean Pickering had to settle for third with his 4lb 4oz catch made up of skimmers and roach.
FAILSWORTH angler Ian Walvin (Drake Floats) likes to travel for his fishing and it pays off on a regular basis as it did last weekend when he visited Rugeley, in Staffordshire, for an open match on Carney’s Pools.
Fishing the waggler and maggot, Ian caught a 5lb carp and loads of silver fish to win the match with 12lb 4oz.
Travelling partner Richard Lofthouse (Drake Floats) took second with his 11lb 8oz net, including two small carp around the 1lb 8oz mark.
George Whiting had a pleasure-fishing stint on the specimen lake and would have easily won the match as he caught three carp for 19lb.
THE Border Anglers members-only match on Hollingrove Dam again saw Dave White in first place. Fishing ten-metre pole and maggot on the hook, Dave caught the odd skimmer and plenty of roach to weigh in 7lb 5oz.
Alec Haines was second with a massive 2lb 4oz perch falling for maggot fished against a hanging tree branch at six metres. He added a few roach and a skimmer to finish with 4lb 1oz.
Peter Jackson maintained his enviable record on this water by taking third with 3lb 15oz of skimmers and roach.
TODMORDEN AS held a poorly-attended annual meeting at which the resigning Dennis Dolan was thanked for all of the work he has done for the club over the last ten years.
Among decisions agreed were that hooks will be no larger than size ten, there would be no bank walking during matches on ponds, and matches should be no longer than five hours.
Next year is the club’s 75th anniversary and all members will get a commemorative box sticker and licence wallet.
Membership prices for next year are: Seniors bought before January 31 £35 (otherwise £45). Juniors £5, women, the over-65s and intermediate (aged 16, 17, 18) £17.50.
Venue Guide
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Greenfield lengths okay with bread punch netting small fish.
Rochdale Canal – Pleasure anglers fishing in and around Boarshaw and Slattocks are being rewarded with some decent catches of roach. Odd better bream coming to pegs on bream bend.
Chadderton Mill lodge – Pleasure anglers still emptying the place with carp and silvers feeding freely. Deeper pegs best.
Park Lake – Not many venturing out but pinkie and maggot will attract a few fish. Pegs near the landing stage and bridges best.
