CUP CRACKER

AMATEUR FOOTBALL: LIMESIDE Athletic ‘A’ produced a stunning comeback against Urmston in the Manchester FA Sunday County Cup.

All seemed lost as Athletic, from the D&J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League David Giblin division one, trailed 4-0.

But despite their perilous position, they refused to throw in the towel and rallied in wonderful fashion to record a 5-4 win and set up a last-16 clash at Procters.

Failsworth Athletic, from the Jack Abbott premier division, are also through after a more clear-cut 4-1 defeat of Inter Alliance.

In the Challenge Cup, Famous King George and Lark Inn face a replay after they drew 3-3 in an all-division two clash, but Highfield United booked their place in round three thanks to a 4-2 win at basement boys Oldham United.

Westwood, bottom of division one, registered a morale-boosting 4-3 win over Old Grey Mare.

Khartoum Northern, second in the premier division, continued their President’s Cup progress with a 4-1 defeat of top-flight rivals Oddies.

Only one game went ahead in the Jack Abbott premier division, where High Crompton CC stretched their lead at the top of the table after a 2-2 at home to Lowerhouse United ‘A’.

Unbeaten Crompton were probably expecting all three points, but Lowerhouse proved a match for the title hopefuls.

In division two, Rifle Range Royal Blues returned to winning ways at Crompton and Royton.

They bounced back from their first defeat of the season in the league to record a 6-2 victory.

Rifle Range lead on goal difference from Northside FC, who won 4-2 at home to North Star Athletic.

Springhead Libs were also on a recovery mission against Royal Oak — they conceded 10 against Famous King George in their previous match — and they had something to cheer about at the final whistle after completing a 4-3 success.
