Ramsbottom record goes, but Glodwick still too strong

OLDHAM Table Tennis League individual champion Mark Ramsbottom lost his 100-per-cent record for the season to the evergreen George Jones. but his Glodwick team still beat Hollinwood A 9-1 with Mick Moir and Kamal Hussein being unbeaten.

Hollinwood’s B team also lost to Werneth B 8-2, with Darryl Meredith in top form in winning three.

Honeywell A prevailed 7-3 in the derby against their B team with Phil Myers being unbeaten. There were two good wins for Ken Hayes for the B team.

Rosehill won a close match against Hyde YMCA A 6-4 thanks to a treble from Phil Ashworth. Ken Ward and Geoff Ogden won two each for Hyde.

There were several close games in the second division, none more so than the 5-5 draw for Uppermill against Werneth D. Mike Pellowe trebled for the visitors, Mark Simpson and Pete Watson winning two each for Uppermill.

Unison A beat Hollinwood F 6-4 thanks to a maximum from Andy Hey. The fast-improving Paul King won two for Hollinwood.

In the third division, there was a 5-5 stalemate as Coldhurst C drew with Uppermill B, Neil Chapman and Ryan Conway winning two each for Coldhurst and Howard Meadham doing likewise for Uppermill.

Alf Barker won three as Grotton B beat Saddleworth B 7-3.

In the big Unison derby, the B team beat the higher-positioned C team 8-2 with Mike Brierley and Allan Auxilly both undefeated.

Deaf Club A went down to their first defeat of the season, 6-4 against Owls A for whom Dave Harthan won three.

Honeywell E beat Coldhurst D 8-2 thanks to a treble from Alan Wynn and two each from Terry Cooper and Pete Ganley.

In the big game in the fourth division, Werneth E won 6-4 at Honeywell F thanks to a treble from Darren Mitzi. John Rutland and Lee Rowbotham won two each for Honeywell.

Deaf Club B joined Werneth E at the top of the table with an 8-2 win over Our Lady’s B, Mike Briggs winning three for the Deaf Club.

Deaf Club C went down 9-1 to an Owls B team for whom Dinesh Gorasia and a much-improved Phil Armstrong won three each.

Counthill crashed 9-1 to Our Lady’s A, with Dean Allman and Pete Chappell both scoring maximums.

Glodwick Academy beat Coldhurst E 7-3 with Abdul Gufar and Zac Rajput being unbeaten again for Glodwick.
