Buckley calls for a rethink

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON manager Paul Buckley wants a change to the fixture programme in the Vodkat North-West Counties League.
The Broadway club suffered their fourth consecutive wash-out on Saturday, and Buckley is uncertain, even at this stage, whether this weekend’s home against Holker Old Boys will go ahead.
Chadderton haven’t played since October 31, and Buckley said: “We’ve got 22 leagues games to fit in and we’re only just in December. We’ve got frost and possibly snow to look forward to yet.
“I don’t know why we can’t play a few more night games at the start of the season in August and September when the weather is good.
“If we did that, it would give clubs a good start and save the problem of having to rearrange so many fixtures at a later date.”
CHEERED by their display last weekend, Tony Mills has set his sights on maximum points from Oldham Boro’s visit to sixth-placed Wigan Robin Park in division one of the NWCL tonight.
The Whitebank Stadium outfit gave as good as they got against Cheadle Town before they eventually succumbed to a 3-2 defeat in the First Division Trophy clash.
Mills was pleased with his side’s performance and believes it offers hope for the future as they strive to move away from the lower reaches of the table.
He said: “We dominated the first half against Cheadle, while the second was a bit more even.
“It was a very good game and the lads stuck at it.
“We could have nicked a draw in the end, which was a good effort considering we only 14 players available because of injuries and work commitments.”
Former Manchester City academy defender Andrew Lee, signed from Rochdale Town, and striker Jermaine Steele, who was a member of Bury FC’s youth programme, made their debuts in the game.
“They both did well and look good prospects,” added Mills.
MOSSLEY are in UniBond League division one north action tonight.
The Lilywhites visit third-bottom Woodley Sports, who have won one and drawn eight of their 18 league games so far this season.
