CRICKET: GLODWICK face the ultimate test in round one of the 2010 Tanner Cup competition — a home tie against holders Bamford Fieldhouse.
The Warren Lane outfit, who joined the S&DCL in 2007, have yet to beat the reigning champions in six previous attempts, although two of the matches were abandoned because of rain.
In a break with tradition, the first and second rounds of the Tanner Cup will be played on Saturdays. This is to free up two Sundays for league fixtures when 12 of the 13 clubs will be guaranteed a game, weather permitting. Clubs also say they attract bigger crowds for Sunday matches.
Of the other first-round ties, last season’s beaten finalists Uppermill play host to Austerlands, Heyside, who beat Bamford in the 2008 final, welcome Greenfield to Little Hey Street.
Draws for rounds one and two —
Round one: Moorside v Shaw; Uppermill v Austerlands; Hollinwood v Friarmere; Glodwick v Bamford Fieldhouse; Heyside v Greenfield. Byes: Droylsden, Stayley, Saddleworth. Ties to take place on Saturday, May 22.
Round two: Hollinwood/Friarmere v Moorside/Shaw; Saddleworth v Glodwick/Bamford Fieldhouse; Stayley v Uppermill/Austerlands; Heyside/Greenfield v Droylsden. Ties to take place on Saturday, June 19.
