RUGBY: ENGLISH Schools Rugby League are appealing to any Oldhamer who, as a boy, played for his school, town, county and country to come forward with their stories and pictures for a heritage project.
Funded by Awards For All, it is aimed at tracing the history and development of schools rugby league in all playing areas and build up an archive for each town.
These archives will then be used to form a book which will tell the national story.
Oldham have a proud tradition in schools RL, going back nearly 100 years, and have helped to produce some of the sport’s leading players in Iestyn Harris, Kevin Sinfield and more recently Kyle Eastmond.
ESRL also want to hear from any teachers, whose vision helped to nurture youngsters in the game.
At least 30 Oldham boys have represented ESRL since 1967 and the town’s school teams have been successful in regional and national competitions.
