Hulmes dismissal hurts Hollinwood

AMATEUR RUGBY: HOLLINWOOD pushed promotion hopefuls Siddal ‘B’ all the way in division four of the Pennine League,

The local outfit, who were searching for their first win of the season after nine straight defeats, led 10-6 at the mid-way stage, but they were unable to hold on to their advantage as they went down 28-14.

The turning point came in the second half when debutant Sam Hulmes was sent off after which Siddal pulled away.

Tries by man-of-the-match Alistair Williams and Mike Chiverall, plus a Darren Cooper goal, put Hollinwood, who had played some good rugby, in command at half-time.

Siddal scored two quick tries after restart to nose in front, but Lee Bayliss’ side replied with a further try by Williams to put the match back in the balance.

However, the dismissal of Hulmes left the hosts with the benefit of an extra man and they forged clear for their fifth league win of the campaign.
