Final target for Chaddy

AMATEUR FOOTBALL: CHADDY End FC are within touching distance of the Manchester FA Sunday Shield final.
The Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott premier division outfit booked their place in the last four with a 2-1 win over Hyde League outfit Jolly Carter.
However, to reach the final they will have to beat competition favourites Langley Celtic, from the Middleton League, over two legs on January 10 and 17.
Chaddy End rode their luck against Jolly Carter. After falling behind early on in the second half, they were then grateful to ’keeper Chris Cogger, who pulled off a series of fine saves.
Ryan Baldwin scored Chaddy End’s equaliser from the penalty spot, before the Nick Alexander popped up with the late winner.
“It was a bit of a smash and grab,” admitted Chaddy End manager Danny Dorward. “We were under the cosh after they got their goal, but we hung on in.”
Meanwhile, after a week of heavy rain, it was no surprise that only four games went ahead in the OSL.
FC Broadgate missed a good chance to go second in the Jack Abbott premier division after they were held to a 1-1 draw at mid-table Failsworth Dynamos.
The wet weather was never going to be an issue for Highfield United, who play their home fixtures on the 3G at Royton and Crompton.
And they duly disposed of MCFA Sunday Cup hopefuls Limeside Athletic ‘A’ 4-0 in David Giblin division one.
The win lifted United to second in the table. See John Gilder’s Match of the Day.
Royal Oak are up to fourth in division two after a 2-0 defeat of Old Grey Mare, while lowly North Star Athletic picked up a useful point in a 2-2 draw at home to Famous King George.
