Lowly Hollinwood slump to new low

AMATEUR RUGBY LEAGUE: HOLLINWOOD need to act fast to retain their division four status in the Pennine League.

The basement boys produced their worst performance of the season so far in a 42-4 defeat at home to West Craven.

Hollinwood’s 11th straight reverse in the league was all the more disappointing after their fine effort against Siddal ‘B’ seven days earlier.

Playing in front of a decent crowd due to other games being called off, the hosts were soon in trouble and they trailed by 26-4 at half-time.

The only joy for Hollinwood came from a Phil Bell try.

The agony continued after the break as promotion contenders West Craven piled up another 16 points.

Some big hits in defence and strong running in attack earned Peter Jackson the man-of-the-match award, while Paul Johnson and Alistair Williams, who was carrying an ankle injury, also gave it their all.

Hollinwood are desperate for a win and it could come Saturday when they play host to second-bottom Kippax ‘A’.
