MOSSLEY manager Chris Willcock has challenged his players to carry on the good work at Salford City in UniBond League division one north tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).
The Lilywhites ended a run of five games with a win at home to Bamber Bridge on Saturday — Matty Kay got the all-important goal — and they are now setting their sights on back-to-back three-point hauls.
Willcock said: “It was an excellent display against a well-organised side who are seeking promotion.
“We deserved it and hopefully we’ve turned the corner. My team talk tonight will centre on following up with another good performance.”
Mossley will be without Ben Richardson for the clash at Moor Lane after the right-sided midfielder damaged ankle ligaments against Lancaster City last Tuesday night. He could be out for up to three weeks.
A NEW system paid dividends for Chadderton in their Vodkat North-West Counties League First Division Trophy second-round tie against Rochdale Town.
After conceding 13 goals in their last three games, Paul Buckley decided to change to a 3-5-2 formation from 4-4-2 — and the switch had an immediate impact as they recorded a 1-0 win.
Dave Glynn, Marvin Walters and John Rogers formed the back three, although Walters was later replaced by Danny Shaw in the heart of the defence after he went off with a knee injury.
“We worked hard at defending set-pieces at training last Thursday night in preparation for Saturday’s game, and it obviously paid off,” said Buckley.
The Broadway chief can look forward to a selection poser for this weekend’s fixture at home to title-chasing Barnoldswick Town.
New signings Shaun Nolan and Leon Melia are now eligible for the first team, while Mickey Green is available after missing the first part of the season because of work commitments.
All three were on the scoresheet for the reserves in Saturday’s 6-2 defeat of Atherton LR.
OLDHAM Boro boss Tony Mills wasn’t a happy man after watching his side go down 1-0 to Cheadle Town in division one of the Vodkat NWCL.
“They were there for the taking, but we didn’t turn up,” said Mills, who must now lift his players for Saturday’s basement battle against Ashton Town.
“We created enough chances to be four or five goals up at half-time. It was one-way traffic, but it just didn’t happen for us.”
Boro could lose right winger Stuart McGill for the rest of the season because of a groin injury, while Alex Dibley and Chris Ward are facing up to four weeks on the sidelines with similar problems.
But Andy Smith (calf) is on course to return in a fortnight.
