Oldham knocked off top
Date published: 16 December 2009
OLDHAM men’s team were replaced at the top of the Lancashire GMC Super Eights table by Rochdale after losing 7-3 at home to their local rivals.
The result — which puts Oldham three points behind the new leaders in the standings — came about largely as a result of Rochdale fielding a very strong side at the Flowerpot on Shaw Road.
Lee Holden was the home team’s man-of-the-match after seeing off England youth team representative Shaun Griffiths 4-2.
There were also victories on the day for Oldham’s John Morton, 4-3 inclusive of a 13-dart finish, and Pete Day, who triumphed 4-2.
Lancashire county captain Doug Smith, Liverpool-born BDO man Stephen Bunting and 2009 British Open winner Dave Chisnall all picked up wins for a highly competitive Rochdale side.
Oldham are now without a game until the New Year.
