AMATEUR RUGBY: WATERHEAD ruined Hindley’s 100-per-cent record in division five of the Kukri North-West Counties League and enhanced their own chances of title glory.
The Peach Road outfit registered a superb 20-18 win to move within two points of the Wigan side, who were suffering their first defeat after eight straight wins.
Meanwhile, Oldham St Anne’s ‘A’ conceded nearly a point a minute as they succumbed 76-0 at high-flying Leigh East in division one.
With last-minute call-ups to the first team to conted with, assistant coaches Rick Healing and Paul Kay were busy trying to draft players for this tough fixture at the Sporting Village.
The hosts showed their superiority with six tries in the opening half.
Despite the efforts of Rob Proudman, Steve McHugh and Paul Spencer, Saints were unable to contain an in-form Leigh side, who went on to score at ease to post their 11th league win of the season.
Saddleworth Rangers ‘A’ also tasted defeat as they went down 24-12 at home to Dalton in division three.
IN division four of the Pennine League, Hollinwood’s home fixture against fellow strugglers Kippax Welfare ‘A’ was postponed.
