Icy blast takes its toll on sport

THE wintery scene at Chadderton’s Broadway ground - replicated throughout the borough.
FROM Broadway to Edge Green Street, frost put paid to the Vodkat North-West Counties League division one fixtures involving Chadderton and Oldham Boro.
Paul Buckley’s Chadderton were due to entertain title-chasing Barnoldswick and Boro were geared up for a visit to Asthon Town, but both playing surfaces failed Saturday morning pitch inspections after a bitterly cold night.
And it was a similar story in UniBond League division one north, where Mossley’s game Trafford also fell foul of the icy blast.
Football was not the only sport to suffer.
All the local mateur rugby league sides were forced to call off their scheduled fixtures due to frost and snow.
It was a similar story for Oldham rugby union club.
