Meredith back in winning style

TABLE TENNIS: WERNETH A welcomed back Stuart Meredith after a knee operation and he was superb in winning three in the 8-2 win over Werneth B in the Oldham Table Tennis League first division. Stuart’s son Darryl was also unbeaten.
There was a close game at Hollinwood where the B team drew 5-5 with Honeywell B. There were two wins each for Dave Cheetham and Adam Rowbotham for the home team and for Steve Barber and Tom Ryan for Honeywell.
Tristran Swann and Ian Quinn trebled for Hollinwood A in the 9-1 win over Hyde YMCA A, Ken Ward’s win over George Jones being Hyde’s only consolation.
There were maximums for Tony Smith and Tom Lang in BAE A’s 8-2 win over Grotton A, Shaun Ellis’ defeat of Tony Bates being Grotton’s only singles triumph.
Ian Mclean and Duncan Hadfield were both undefeated as Saddleworth A beat Rosehill 6-4.
Honeywell A and Glodwick both had 10-0 wins over BAE B and Werneth C, respectively.
Werneth D had a narrow 6-4 win over Honeywell D in the second division, with Richard Hinchcliffe and Mike Pellowe both winning three for Werneth. Ken Dunkerley and Tom Ryan did the same for Honeywell but Harry Ross’ defeat of Paul Carter proved decisive.
Hollinwood D beat their F team 8-2 with Andy McNabb being unbeaten, while Glenn Chadwick scored a maximum but his Pennine team went down 7-3 to Honeywell C.
Coldhurst A continued their fine form at the top of the table with a 8-2 win over Uppermill A. Simon King was unbeaten for Coldhurst.
Hollinwood E beat Hyde YMCA B 6-4 with two wins each for Paul King and Andy McNabb. Neil Coppard won two for Hyde.
In division three, Ken Dunkerley won three for Honeywell E in their 6-4 win at St Saviour’s while Grotton B beat bottom side Unison D 8-2 with Alf Barker undefeated for Grotton.
Malcolm Wills trebled for Coldhurst B as they continued their promotion challenge with an 8-2 win over Coldhurst D for whom Phil Mellor won two.
Owls A beat Uppermill B 7-3 thanks mainly to three wins from Richard Tamworth.
Gilders won 6-4 at Coldhurst C with Colin Ogden scoring a maximum for the visitors. Ryan Conway won two for Coldhurst.
Saddleworth B battled hard but still lost 7-3 to Unison B for whom Paul Whyatt was unbeaten. Alex Griffiths won two for Saddleworth.
A two-man Coldhurst E side were made to fight for their 6-4 win over improving Counthill in the fourth division. Frank Corlett was unbeaten for Coldhurst.
Abdul Gufar and Zac Rajput were again undefeated for Glodwick Academy in their 7-3 win over St Saviour’s B.
Werneth E beat their G team 7-3 with a maximum for Joe Taylor. Fred Pickles won two for the G team.
