Head aim to upset cup-tie odds
Date published: 24 December 2009
WATERHEAD are down to take on in-form Saddleworth Rangers on Sunday in a repeat of last season’s Standard Cup final (1.30pm kick off).
The Peach Road side have struggled badly for form in National Conference League division two and have a big task on their hands in taking on a side top of division one in the first round of this year’s competition.
However, memories of the last meeting of the sides will boost Waterhead confidence. Mick Slicker’s side won 12-6 at Boundary Park and will aim to once again upset the odds this weekend at Waterhead Park.
In the day’s other fixtures, Pennine League side Hollinwood travel to play North-West Counties League outfit Higginshaw, while new boys Ashton under Lyne RFC are at home to NCL division two high-flyers Oldham St Anne’s. Rochdale Cobras have a bye to the semi-finals.
