ATHLETICS: FOUR Oldham & Royton Harriers runners travelled to Clitheroe to work off some of the Christmas mince pies at the Ribble Valley 10k.

Despite the icy conditions, the roads were clear for the race and a high-quality field set off on the 6.2 mile route.

Jason Horsfield led the team home with an excellent new personal best of 38:25, with Dominic Kennerley not far back in 39:54 (also a new best time).

Pete Williams finished strongly in 43:12, followed by Sharon Horsfield, who set a new best time of 49:27 round the hilly course.

FIVE members of Royton Road Runners braved the cold, icy conditions to run in the tough Hot Toddy 5.8 mile road race.

Leading the way, club chairman Bryan Lawton recorded a time of 38 minutes 35 seconds, followed by Robert Kellett (40:19).

Representing the club for the first time in this popular annual event were Mark Kelly (43:01) and Ronnie Quinn (45:42).

Former club chairman, and now in the over-65 age group, Trevor Grundy completed the race with a creditable time of 52:20.
