First-round exit for Hollinwood
Date published: 28 January 2010
HOLLINWOOD were beaten 50-4 at Liversedge in the first round of the Alan Bennett Memorial Trophy.
The tie was virtually over by half-time with the Pennine League division four outfit, fielding a scratch team due to players being unavailable, trailing 34-4, Rob Penswick scoring the visitors’ only try.
A half-time reshuffle kept Liversedge at bay for long periods in the second period as Hollinwood produced a much-improved display.
They are now targeting points in their remaining home fixtures to keep alive their hopes of avoiding relegation.
Alistair Williams was Hollinwood’s man-of-the-match, while Penswick, Michael Chiverall, Neil Messenger and Peter Jackson impressed after the interval.
