NARROW WIN LIFTS SAINTS TO MID-TABLE
OLDHAM St Anne’s ‘A’ boosted their hopes of beating the drop after recording a fifth win of the season in division one of the Kukri North-West Counties League.
The hosts overcame Haydock 10-6 in a hard-fought contest to climb to sixth in the table.
A first-half try and a goal by Ben Fitzhugh put Saints in command, only for their opponents, who are also threatened by relegation, to draw level before the break.
It was nip and tuck in the second half, but the home side secured two vital points thanks to a try from substitute from Ryan Grumbridge.
Elsewhere in the NWCL, Saddleworth Rangers are still on the look-out for their first win in division three after they were beaten 40-14 by Ulverston.
But Waterhead are hot on the heels of Hindley at the top of division five.
They recorded a 44-12 victory at basement boys Chorley Panthers to move within two points of the table-toppers with a game in hand.
HIGGINSHAW, who were without a game in division four, are in National Cup action on Saturday, with a home second-round tie against Hunslet Warriors (kick-off 2pm).
