Frontline options at Buckley’s disposal

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON manager Paul Buckley is facing a frontline dilemma for tomorrow’s match at Cheadle Town in Vodkat North-West Counties League division one.

Striker James Curley is back from suspension — he has finally completed his three-match ban which started in the autumn — and Martin Love and Joe Jacobs staked their claim for first-team call-ups with a goal apiece in the 5-2 friendly defeat at home to Mossley in midweek.

Leon Walters looks a virtual shoe-in after his hat-trick in the 3-2 win at Eccleshall last weekend, while fellow frontman Leon Melia also did well in that game.

Throw into the mix Mickey Green, then Buckley has plenty of options open to him.

On the down side, Chadderton will be missing John Jones for up to eight weeks after he damaged ankle ligaments on Tuesday night. James Mooney could take his place in the centre of midfield.

OLDHAM Boro boss Tony Mills has no such luxury for tomorrow’s trip to Holker Old Boys in NWCL division one.

Mills is without half-a-dozen first-team players, including key midfielder Tom Hughes, who has returned to the club after an unsuccessful spell at Trafford.

Ryan Baldwin, Duncan Philbin, Darren Scanlan, ’keeper Callum Hanagan and Charlie Clarke are also absent through a mixture of holidays and injury.

Mills said: “Our record at Holker isn’t great, but we’ll give it a go and see what happens.

“We should have everybody available for the following Saturday when we entertain Stone Dominoes, who top of the table.”

MOSSLEY start life without Chris Willcock tomorrow when they visit Radcliffe Borough in UniBond League division one north.

Willcock resigned this week to become Benny Phillips’ No2 at Stalybridge Celtic.

His assistant John Flanagan has taken over the Seel Park hot-seat for the foreseeable future and he will be hoping for a winning start in the league against a side who are two places above over Mossley in the table.
