Academy go clear
OLDHAM Snooker Academy ‘A’ stormed 15 points clear at the top of the Manchester Snooker League with an emphatic 7-0 win over Wythenshawe.
In-form Ian Atherton, Sajid Zamurd, Mick Smith, who is back in the team following a foot operation, Craig Atherton and Khalid Mahmood were victorious.
Zamurd remains at the head of the league’s individual rankings, while Atherton is up to fourth.
Nearest rivals Hazel Grove were beaten 6-1.
Academy ‘B’ are riding high in their division — they lead by nine points — after exacting revenge over Frames (Hyde).
They swept aside their opponents, the only team to beat them so far this season, 5-2. But it could so easily have been a whitewash as two of the frames were decided on the black.
DELEGATES in the Thwaites Brewery Crompton League meet at the Dog & Partridge tonight (8.30) when registrations are needed for the under-25s and ladies knock-outs.
The latter competition is this Sunday (register 12.30, draw/strike-out 1pm) at The Star.
