AMATEUR RUGBY LEAGUE: WATERHEAD ARLFC are actively hunting for a new head coach following the departure of Mick Slicker.
Paul Geener is currently being assisted by John Byram in taking charge of training as the first team prepares to take on National Conference League division two pacesetters Stanley Rangers at home on Saturday afternoon.
Slicker continues at the helm of Waterhead’s under-16s side, a role he took on this season.
A club statement reads: “We would like to thank Mick for his service, commitment and dedication over the last two-and-a-half years with our open age side and wish him all the success in the world with our crack under-16s team.
“Mick’s family are heavily involved in the the club and his grandchildren are playing in our successful youth set-up. The Slicker family are definitely Waterhead through and through.”
Slicker’s departure was due to his disillusionment with first-team life at the struggling National Conference League outfit, who failed to kick on from a superb Standard Cup victory at Boundary Park last year and are now languishing third-bottom of division two with only three league wins all season.
Training sessions for the first team and the ‘A’ side take place at Breeze Hill School on Mondays from 6pm to 8pm and on the all-weather pitch from 7pm to 8pm, with players old and new welcome.
For more information, contact Paul Geener on 07881 697049 or John Byrom on 07921 756430.
Mick Bradshaw has been appointed as Waterhead’s open age manager and his role is to bring in funding for the team. Anyone wishing to contribute in any way can contact him on 07894 122315.
