NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON are up to 11th in division one of the Vodkat North-West Counties League after a 4-1 defeat of basement boys Rochdale Town at Broadway.

Leading through debutant James Mooney, they were pegged back just after half-time, before finally finding their range to record an emphatic win.

Midfielder Mooney, who was promoted from the reserves after Gaz Morris was ruled out because of a ban, converted a free-kick after Chadderton were grateful to ‘keeper Lee Swanson for denying Town.

Donavan Greenidge had two good chances and James Curley had a goal disallowed before the visitors levelled courtesy of a tap-in from a corner.

But Paul Buckley’s men were back in front when Curley headed home a Mooney free-kick.

Chris Pauley also had an effort chalked off, but Chadderton’s wait for a third goal was not long in coming as Leon Melia applied the finishing touch to a smart one-two with strike partner Curley.

And Melia made it six goals in three games after again linking up with Curley.

Andy Pheby hit the crossbar, while Liam Radcliffe, Melia and Curley also saw shots saved by Town ‘keeper Mark Canning as Chadderton created openings up until the final whistle.

OLDHAM Boro continued their improved form by holding Ashton Town to a 1-1 draw at the Whitebank Stadium.

Like Chadderton, Tony Mills’ side wasted a glut of chances in the NWCL division one clash.

Second-bottom Boro dominated the first half but only had a Damian Schofield header - Nick Alexander supplied the cross - to show for their efforts.

Darren Scanlan, Tom Hughes and Alexander all spurned decent opportunities to extend the lead before the break, and they were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal when Town equalised from a penalty soon after the restart.

Boro conceded a spot-kick in the 2-2 draw against Stone Dominoes seven days earlier and Duncan Philbin was again the guilty man, the midfielder penalised for a foul.

Town dominated the next period of play, but Boro should have gone in front again through Arnold Nsimbe, who was first off target with a header and then fired wide.

The visitors also had a chance late on, but they were unable to make it count.

FOR the second time in seven days, Mossley and Prescot Cables fought out a goalless draw in UniBond League division one north - but not before the Lilywhites had hit the woodwork on three occasions at Valerie Park.

After a dull first half, the match sprang to life when Ben Richardson struck a post and Graham Kay’s looping header dropped on top of the crossbar.

Matty Kay then went down under a challenge when perfectly-placed to score, but penalty appeals were waved away.

Mossley continued to dominate and Mike Fish had an effort cleared off the line, before Andy Watson hit a post with a long-range shot.

Cables were also denied by the woodwork as both sides had to settle for a point apiece.
