TABLE TENNIS:

DIVISION 1 leaders Glodwick beat Saddleworth CC 7-3 in the Oldham Table Tennis League thanks to a maximum from Jeff Craighill and a double from Mark Ramsbottom.

A Tom Lang treble, with a double from Mark Aspen, gave BAE A a 7-3 win at Honeywell A for whom Dave Buckley scored two.

However, an Adam Rowbotham treble was not enough to prevent a 6-4 defeat for Hollinwood B at Werneth B, for whom Rob Carter and Gary Skinner scored doubles.

BAE B overcame bottom team Werneth C by the narrowest of margins thanks to a Mick Hill treble backed up by an Eddie Kalinowski double.

Shaun Ellis again starred for Grotton B, winning his three games in a 6-4 win against Honeywell B.

Coldhurst A, top of the second division, emerged 6–4 victors at Hollinwood C mainly due to a Paul Howarth maximum. Nathan Buckley won two in reply.

Second-placed Honeywell C went down 7-3 at Droylsden with Miles Benjamin unbeaten for the victors and following up a similar stint in their draw at Uppermill the week before.

A rare treble for John Robertson gave Pennine a draw at Hollinwood E, while maximums from Mick Pellowe and Richard Hinchliffe earned Werneth D a 7-3 win at Hollinwood F.

Division 3 leaders Deaf Club A team of Peter Dawson, Ian Cockcroft and Dave Varney beat Gilders Tackle 7-3, with Mark Craven beating Pete and Ian for two of Gilders points.

Second-placed Unison C went down 6-4 to a strong Coldhurst B team of Simon King (3), Simon Walsh (2) and Gary Keylock. Andrew Tarpey replied with two wins but lost in five to Simon King.

Unison B held on to third place with a 9-1 win at Coldhurst D with maximums from Mike Brierley and Paul Whyatt.

Saddleworth B came away from Honeywell E with an 8-2 win thanks to trebles from Alex Griffiths and Chris Brazewell in a game which included an excellent win for Alan Wynn against Tony Prescott.

A treble for Grotton B’s Alf Barker gave his team a 6-4 win against St Saviour’s A.

Richard Tamworth starred in Owls A 8-2 win against Coldhurst C where there was a rare scoreline in the doubles - Coldhurst losing by the narrowest of margins in the fifth game. Every game was decided by only two points with two being deuce.

Deaf Club B remain top in Division 4 after their 10-0 win at St Saviours B, although they are closely persued by Werneth E who posted 9-1 and 10-0 wins against Owls B and Our Lady’s C, respectively.

Honeywell F, in distant third, completed a 9-1 win at Werneth G with maximums from Lee Rowbotham and Ronnie Holt and a double from Tommy Loftus on his return from a lengthy injury.

Our Lady’s B beat their A team 9-1 with maximums from Matthew Kelly and John Moran. James Chappell won two, including one against his father Pete, but lost to Dean Allman.

Peter Aspinall, appearing in only his third start of the season, was unbeaten for Werneth F in their 7-3 win against Our Lady’s A.
