AMATEUR RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH Rangers’ under-18s scrum-half Tom Whitehead has signed a one-year professional deal with Salford City Reds.
He is the third player from the club’s Gillette National Youth League side to earn a move to Super League this season, following on from Warrington Wolves duo Anthony Morrison and Gareth Morgan.
Whitehead played most of his junior rugby at Waterhead and was part of the under-15s and under-16s teams that won consecutive North-West Counties titles.
He made an impressive debut in the Reds’ under-20s pre-season friendly against St Helens, which Salford lost 44-34.
