MOSSLEY boast one of the UniBond League’s red-hot strikers as they look to dent FC Halifax Town’s title hopes at the Shay tomorrow.
A double in the Lilywhites’ 5-0 demolition of Warrington Town on Tuesday night took Matty Kay’s tally for the season in the north division to 13 goals and an impressive 23 in all competitions.
Mike Fish also weighed in with a brace and Chris McDonaugh got the other as Mossley, after three straight draws, tasted victory for the first time under new manager John Flanagan.
Flanagan’s first match in charge was against FC Halifax at the start of February and ended in a 3-3 draw.
OLDHAM Boro manager Tony Mills praised his players ahead of tomorrow’s Vodkat North-West Counties League division one clash at home to AFC Blackpool.
Unbeaten in their last two games - they registered draws against leaders Stone Domines and Ashton Town - the Whitebank Stadium chief is set name an unchanged side for the third straight time.
Mills said: “The players deserve a huge pat on the back. They have really stuck at it and are finally getting the results that their efforts have deserved.
“We’re building for next season and all I can hope for is that I can keep everybody together.
“Tom Hughes and the two players from Bacup, Shaun Roscoe and Matty Hampson, have made a big difference and I’m confident we can clip Blackpool’s wings.”
Blackpool are one of the form teams in the competition, winning eight of their last 12 league and cup games. They were in the bottom three earlier this season, but are now up to sixth.
The two teams have met twice already in 2009/10. Second-bottom Boro beat Blackpool 4-2 in the FA Vase, while the Mechanics outfit won the first league fixture 2-1.
CHADDERTON, who sit 12th in division one of the NWCL, are hoping to stretch their unbeaten league record to four matches when Eccleshall visit Broadway.
Paul Buckley’s men were in Manchester Premier Cup action last night - unfortunately losing 1-0 to an 86th minute goal at Radcliffe Borough - but it will be a much-changed starting XI who step out this weekend.
With both eyes firmly fixed on vital league points, the Chadderton boss rested a number of first-choice players for the quarter-final tie.
But Buckley will send out his strongest possible side tomorrow.
Dave Glynn, Darren Shaw and Gaz Morris are added to the mix after all three missed last weekend’s 4-1 defeat of Rochdale Town through holiday, work commitments and suspension respectively.
