AMATEUR RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH Rangers lead Oldham St Anne’s by eight points after the latest round of matches in the 2009/10 Rugby Oldham Challenge.

Keith Brennan’s side were too strong for Millom — they won 34-6 — in division one of the National Conference League.

Saints had to dig deep to beat Egremont Rangers 42-24 in division two of the NCL as they trailed by 14 points at one stage in the first half.

Rochdale Cobras remain third in the standings despite tasting defeat in the North-West Counties League, but Higginshaw narrowed the gap to five points after a comeback win against Pilkington Recs ‘A’. See separate story.

Waterhead conceded 32 unanswered points against Eccles, leaders of NCL division two.

And it was unlucky 13 for winless Hollinwood, who fought hard but ultimately lost their 13th game in Pennine League division four when they went down 36-44 at home to Siddal ‘B’.
