AMATEUR FOOTBALL: CHADDERTONIANS are fixing their sights on the Lancashire Amateur League premier division title.
They are up to third in the table — five points adrift of How Bridge Mills and Old Boltonians — after a 2-0 win at lowly Horwich RMI.
Chadds, who boast two games in hand over the top two, went ahead in the fifth minute. Steve Barrow produced the perfect lob after Gary Pickup pass.
The visitors dominated possession but missed several chances until, with 20 minutes to go, Dave Ashworth secured the points.
Failsworth Dynamos also tasted success with a 3-1 win at home to Rossendale Amateurs.
A below-par Oldham Hulmeians were beaten 3-2 by Old Mancunians reserves in division two.
Apart from a 25-yard strike from Simon Toms, Hulmeians were off the pace in the first half and they found themselves 3-1 down.
The hosts improved after the break but Danny Proffitt’s late effort was all they could muster in reply.
Chris Duxbury was the star of the show as Chadds reserves recorded a superb result against second-placed Hesketh Casuals.
He scored four times in an emphatic 6-2 win. Adam Duxbury and Jack Barnes were also on target.
Meanwhile, Hulmeians reserves were 4-2 winners over Howe Bridge Mills reserves in division five. Elliot McKinnell (two), Danny Harrison and Gareth Sykes were the men on target.
Chris O’Toole bagged a hat-trick for Chadds ‘B’, who remain second in division six after a 4-3 victory over Thornleigh ‘B’. Adam Flint got the other Chadds goal.
A bottom-of-the-table clash in division seven saw Hulmeians ‘B’ share a 2-2 draw with Bury GSOB ‘B’.
