TWO goals in two minutes condemned Chadderton to a 2-1 defeat at home to Barnoldswick Town in Vodkat North-West Counties League division one last night.
Paul Buckley’s side were hit by the double blow at the end of the first half — a Stuart Airdrie volley and a Neil Chapman free-kick did the damage — before Jimmy Huet halved the deficit in the 73rd minute.
But Chadderton gave as as good as they got against the title hopefuls, with striker James Curley having a goal disallowed and a penalty appeal waved away when it was still goalless.
The home side had frontman Leon Melia sent off before the hour mark after he received a second yellow card.
Huet pulled a goal back after the ball was played into the penalty area by Curley, but the 10 men couldn’t force an equaliser.
In fact, Chadderton were grateful to ’keeper Chris Ventriss for denying the visitors a third goal late on.
The win lifted Town to the top of the table.
MOSSLEY are looking to record back-to-back wins for the first time since October 20 when they visit Bamber Bridge in UniBond League division one north tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).
The Lilywhites recovered from a two-goal deficit to defeat play-off hopefuls Clitheroe 4-2 on Saturday, and manager John Flanagan is aiming for another maximum points haul in the push for mid-table security.
Goals have been in plentiful supply for Mossley of late. They have scored 11 in their last three games, including five in the win over Warrington Town.
Bamber, in 12th, go in to the game on the back of a 2-1 victory at struggling Salford City.
Meanwhile, OLDHAM BORO are likely to be at full-strength for the trip to Leek CSOB on Saturday.
Tony Mills’ side had a weekend off after their game at Irlam was postponed because of waterlogged pitch.
Midfielders Duncan Philbin and Lee Scanlan as well as forward Ryan Baldwin were due to sit out the NWCL division one clash for a variety of reasons, but all three are expected to return for the away test.
::MOSSLEY FC goalkeeper Peter Collinge is organising a golf day to raise money towards the cost of new floodlights at the club’s Seel Park ground.
Saddleworth Golf Club will host the four-man team event on Friday, April 9. Entry fee is £200 per team. For further details, email Peter at p.collinge@yahoo.co.uk
