Saints in surprise defeat by strugglers

AMATEUR RUGBY LEAGUE: IT was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show for Oldham St Anne’s ‘A’ in division one of the North-West Counties League.
They went down 18-8 at bottom-of-the-table Wigan St Patrick’s — it was the hosts’ first win of the season — seven days after coming from behind to defeat Latchford Albion.
In horrendous conditions, the game featured too many errors and penalties conceded by both sides.
Saints went ahead after 15 minutes with a try from Luke Wallace, and they also had the advantage of an extra man after a St Pat’s player was sent to the sidelines for protesting too much at the score.
But the hosts replied with two converted tries to lead 12-4 at the break.
St Pat’s added another six-point haul just after the restart, before John Doherty scored a consolation try five minutes from time.
Elsewhere, Saddleworth Rangers were beaten 20-0 at division three table-toppers Widnes West Bank.
