Brookside boost for Humphries

ANGLING: WELL-KNOWN Oldham angler Pete Humphries (Gilders) showed that he can mix it with the best in Brookside Fisheries Sunday open match fished on Snake and Willow lakes.
Drawn on peg thirty six, a peg with no form at all, Pete showed his class by netting himself 32lb of carp, ide and perch - with maggot fished at around 12 metres - to relegate England international Stu Conroy into second with his similar net weighing 26lb 10oz.
LAST Sunday’s Todmorden AS open match fished on a freezing cold Town House fishery was won by Rob McEndry with his 7lb 8oz of ide and roach falling to the long pole and worm.
Stan Buckley took second with 7lb 1oz of carp also taken on the pole, followed by Lee Cavanagh with his silver fish net weighing in at 5lb 12oz.
Todmorden AS memberships for 2010 are still available from the usual outlets and are priced as follows: Senior £45, ladies, OAP’s, intermediate all £17.50. Junior memberships (up to age 16) is £5.
CHADDERTON Mill lodge fished well for the club’s winter league with the top four all posting double-figure weights.
Winner on the day was Ian Cox (Stalybridge Angling) from his plum draw on peg fourteen. He netted seven carp and a fair few ide and skimmers with maggot fished on the waggler and tip for 17lb 8oz.
Ivan Ditchfield (Gilders) had a great start, netting a carp on his first cast, and followed it up with three others, two good-sized skimmers and plenty of ide to record a level 17lb from peg sixteen.
Alan Shaw (Tight lines) took third with two carp on the tip and maggot before switching to the long pole and maggot where he worked hard for roach, skimmers and ide weighing 14lb 8oz.
Teenager Aiden Bordiak (Tight lines) once again made the frame, netting himself 11lb 8oz of ide, small chub and skimmers with eleven metre pole and red maggot doing the damage to weigh in 11lb 8oz.
League placings with just two matches to fish are Paul Hill 16 points, Ian Cox 17, Aiden Bordiak 21, Mick Tighe 22, Alan Shaw 23.
MY favourite match water by a long way was the venue chosen for the fourth round of the TRI-CAST Rochdale Teams of four winter league - the Rochdale Canal at Hebden Bridge where I’ve seen grown men almost crying after five hours of suffering. But for me it was always an extremely rewarding venue.
Well-known caster man Dave Colbran took the spoils with his 6lb 12oz net made up of roach taken on bread punch and caster.
Alan Crook continues to make the frame in this area, taking second with 5lb 13oz of mainly roach and beating Phil Smith into third with 5lb 1oz.
Teamwise it was Fox Match Red who won the day with 32 points followed by Team Cadburys 31 and Fishamania 28.
The league so far sees Fox Match Red in pole with 113 points from TRI-CAST Rochdale Blue on 95 and Fox Match Black in third with 75.
CHADDERTON Mill AC members please note that subs are now due with membership rejoining dates Wednesdays March 10, 17 and 24 at the Dog Inn starting at 7pm and finishing at 8pm.

The club is holding a joining night for mew members on March 31 at the Dog Inn (7pm to 8pm).
DIGGLE AC are stocking an excellent Tanners Dam with 2,000 skimmers in the four to six-inch range.
The club has an ongoing restocking policy whereby they don’t stock large quantities of fish in one go but rather stock smaller levels of in several waters rotating this over a period of time.
This ensures that all of their waters are freshened up, which is generally all that fisheries need.
I have seen good waters ruined by an almost manic level of stocking which tips the scales and ruins the natural balance. Diggle clearly have people at the helm who have decided on a sensible restocking policy. Keep it up.
VENUE GUIDE
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – not many fishing but there are fish to be had on this day-ticket water. Keep it simple with very little feed and you should catch..
Rochdale Canal – Most under-rated water in the area with plenty of roach and skimmers and very few pegs that won’t produce a few fish. Pegs up at Scowcroft, Boarshaw, Slattocks, behind the bungalows at Firwood Park and the Rose of Lancaster stretches will all produce. Bread punch and pinkie for bites.
Chadderton Mill lodge – Incredible water with red maggot on pole, waggler or tip the best bait for carp, ide, roach and skimmers. Double figures in virtually every peg. Members only.
Hollingworth Lake – Plenty of pike anglerS out so sport must be okay. Day ticket water..
Ogden Reservoir – Decent-sized perch and a few pike coming out.
