AMATEUR FOOTBALL: JOHNNY PAULEY put Limeside Athletic ‘B’ to the sword in division two of the D&J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League.
The Famous King George hot-shot struck six times in an emphatic 9-3 victory.
Rifle Range Royal Blues stretched their lead to nine points, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against fourth-bottom North Star Athletic.
Improving Oldham United recorded their second win in the league when they overcame Crompton and Royton 3-2, and Lowerhouse United ‘B’ remain fourth after a 4-1 win at lowly Old Grey Mare.
Champions in 2006 and 2007, High Crompton moved to the top of the Jack Abbott premier division table after a 3-2 defeat of Oddies Athletic.
Failsworth Athletic picked up maximum points without kicking a ball as opponents Failsworth Dynamos were unable to raise a team.
Only one game took place in David Giblin division one, with Parkside holding title contenders Highfield United to a 4-4 draw.
Meanwhile, there were no surprises in the three President’s Trophy, third-round ties.
Limeside Athletic ‘A’ swept aside division one rivals Royton Athletic 6-0 and top-flight FC Royton beat Red Star, from division one, 6-4.
Rose of Lancaster (division one) are also through to the next round, but they were pushed every step of the way by division two promotion hopefuls Lark Inn, who eventually succumbed 3-2.

Chaddy dream is over
THREE goals in the opening 20 minutes dashed Chaddy End’s dream of reaching the Manchester County FA Sunday Shield final.
The Oldham Sunday League premier division outfit went on to lose 5-0 at Langley Celtic and 7-2 on aggregate in the last four of the competition.
Chaddy were up against it from the word go as they could only field three players who started the first leg, which had ended 2-2.
But goals from Lee Neville, Dominic Stockdale and John Worsley put Celtic in command, before further efforts from Dave Neville and Darren Lyons sealed victory.
Celtic, winners of the competition in 2007 and 2008, will meet holders Sale in the final on March 28.
Sting in the tail leaves Santos empty-handed
DESPITE being ahead for more than three-quarters of the game, Santos were denied a third win on the bounce in division two of the Lancashire and Cheshire League when they were beaten 3-1 by table-toppers Deans FC.
In front courtesy of a Matthew Fitton effort — Martin Green provided the final ball — Santos more than matched their opponents.
They created several opportunities to increase their lead. Jonathan Phillips saw a 25-yard effort crash off the crossbar, and Fitton should have added a second, but decided to pass instead of shooting himself.
At the other end, John Mayall, Jonathan Harrison, Reece Mills and Ryan Kelly were outstanding in defence and Robert Tagg made several fine saves to keep Deans at bay.
Deans piled on the pressure in the last 15 minutes and they eventually equalised after capitalising on a poor goal kick.
The title-hopefuls soon added a second after midfielder Jamie Taylor made his only mistake of the game and, with five minutes to go, they made it 3-1.
In division ‘D’, Santos reserves pushed top of the table Bedians all the way before finally succumbing 5-3, but AFC Oldham 2005 reserves overcame Chorltonians fifths 4-2.
Toms the star for Hulmeians
SKIPPER Simon Toms bagged a hat-trick as Oldham Hulmeians thumped bottom-of-the-table Astley Bridge 8-1 in division two of the Lancashire Amateur League.
The visitors, still looking for their first points of the season, took a shock lead but Hulmeians soon got their shooting boots on as goals from Jonny Shaw, Danny Tate and Toms put them 3-1 ahead at the break.
Toms completed his hat-trick early in the second half before Steve Shalmani, Jonathan Hadfield and Mike Davies piled on the misery for Astley Bridge.
Chaddertonians ‘A’, second in division four, recorded a convincing 3-0 win over Accrington Amateurs reserves. Alex Pickering, Dale Myers and Mark Hendstock got the goals.
Four goals from Ross Pierce saw Hulmeians ‘B’ come from behind to beat Rossendale Amateurs ‘D’ 6-2 in division seven.
The local side were 2-0 down at half-time and had seen the visitors miss a penalty, but Pierce’s quadruple, plus two from Niall Yates, saw them to a comfortable victory.

Dusty deny Harlequins
HARLEQUIN were held to a 3-3 draw by Dusty Miller in a AW Trippier Cup encounter.
Behind to a penalty, Quins equalised through Danny Eden.
Hosts Dusty Miller regained the advantage, only for Mickey Pearce to restore parity before the break.
Substitute Dave Bates put Quins in front for the first time after the restart, but Dusty Miller scored the sixth goal of an entertaining clash.
AFC ROYTON turned the tables on Whitworth Valley reserves in the C Potts Cup.
Crushed 4-0 by their opponents seven days earlier, they showed no ill-effects of that defeat by recording a hard-fought 3-1 win.
Barry King (two) and Tony Fearson were on target for Royton. King’s second was a stunning effort from outside of the penalty area.
