Young guns off to a flier

SWIMMING:
OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club youngsters made an impressive start to the season by beating Bury and Elton and Stalybridge Swimming Clubs in their opening fixture of the Central Lancashire Junior Jubilee League.
Oldham won 24 of the 42 events held at Oldham Sports Stadium.
Dylan Arzoni completed a hat-trick of wins in the under-10s one-length freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.
And in the same age group for girls, there were second places for Olivia Green in backstroke and butterfly, and for Rebecca Loft in freestyle.
Amy Cunningham notched a winning double in the 11-years two-lengths freestyle and butterfly, while team-mate Fleur Mitchell won the breaststroke event.
In the same age group, Daniel Fearnley landed the two-lengths butterfly and freestyle, while Henry Coverley took first place in the two-lengths backstroke.
Second places were achieved by Amy Cunningham (butterfly) and Henry Coverley (freestyle).
The 12-years girls performed a clean sweep in the individual events, with Sara Loft achieving a hat-trick of wins in the two-lengths freestyle, backstroke and butterfly and team-mate Kiandra Basnett taking first place in the breaststroke.
Also in this age section, Kyle Clegg won the two-lengths breastroke and was second in the butterfly.
Nicola Farrell made a superb debut with wins in the 13-years two-lengths backstroke and freestyle, while Caitlin Wareing added the breaststroke to Oldham’s list of wins.
Kyle Clegg won the two-lengths breaststroke in the same age group.
The girls’ 11-years and under team of Abbie Mellor, Fleur Mitchell, Amy Cunningham and Olivia Green won the 4 x 1-length freestyle and medleys.
And the boys’ line-up of Henry Coverley, Jamie Marsden, Daniel Fearnley and Dylan Arzoni were runners-up in both their relays.
The 13-years and under girls team of Caitlin Wareing, Kiandra Basnett, Nicola Farrell and Sara Loft landed the freestyle and medley relays, while the boys’ squad of Sam Marsden, Kyle Clegg, Michael Entwistle and Heyden Saville finished second in the freestyle relay.
Oldham finished off the night off in style in the cannon 4 x 1 freestyle relay, a race which comprises one swimmer from each of the four age groups.
And the teams of Olivia Green, Amy Cunningham, Sara Loft and Nicola Farrell and Dylan Arzoni, Daniel Fearnley, Kyle Clegg and Sam Marsden cruised to victory.
Final score: Oldham 141, Bury and Elton 127, Stalybridge 108.
