Saints set the pace

AMATEUR RUGBY:
OLDHAM St Anne’s are setting the pace in the 2009/10 Rugby Oldham Challenge.
The table, based on the average number of points picked up in games played, sees Mick Cashin’s side hold a narrow lead over Rochdale Cobras in the battle for local bragging rights.
Saints defeated Shaw Cross 30-18 in division two of the National Conference League in their latest clash, while Cobras had Saturday off.
Saddleworth Rangers, in third place, swept aside Heworth 80-0 in division one of the NCL.
Next-best Higginshaw lost 16-13 to Leyland Warriors in division four of the North-West Counties League but Waterhead, from division two of the NCL, recorded a 34-28 win over Crosfields.
Hollinwood registered their first win in the competition as they defeated Elland ‘A’ 34-22 in Pennine League division four.
