AMATEUR RUGBY:
AT LAST! Hollinwood got off the mark in division four of the Pennine League at the 15th attempt.
Lee Bayliss’ side have shown improved of late and they were rewarded with a 34-22 win at Elland ‘A’.
Alistair Williams broke the deadlock for Hollinwood, with Michael Chiverall adding a second try moments later.
Daz Cooper kicked the conversion before touching down for a 14-0 half-time lead for the visitors.
Elland came out with all guns blazing in the second period, crossing the line in the first set of six tackles.
But Hollinwood hit back straight away through Williams, with Cooper slotting over the extras.
Elland responded with another converted try, only for Bayliss to extend the advantage after chasing a Cooper kick.
Williams completed his hat-trick — Cooper converted — before Rob Penswick scored late on after Elland had added to their tally.
Peter Davies, playing at centre and Cooper, pushed Williams all the way for the man-of-the-match award.
Hollinwood will look to follow up at third-placed Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks on Saturday.
